Position Statements

Position statements relate to the Office's position on systemic issues. The position statements are living documents that are regularly reviewed. They reflect the ongoing examination within the Office of the Public Advocate of the principles of substitute decision-making and statutory advocacy. Behind the position statements are the principles set out by Parliament concerning the adoption of means that are the least restrictive of a person's freedom of decision and action as is possible in the circumstances; the promotion of best interests; and giving effect, wherever possible, to the wishes of the person with a disability.

You may use or quote the position statements but when doing so please make sure that they are the latest version as the process of updating is continual. We also welcome any comments on them. Contact Us.
