Introduction of regular online information sessions

The Office of the Public Advocate (OPA) is introducing a series of short weekly webinars and longer monthly webinars, that cover the following topics on a rotating schedule: enduring powers of attorney, medical treatment decision-making, and guardianship and administration. No registration is required, and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Public Advocate Colleen Pearce said the new regular online sessions were the result of challenges and opportunities provided by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Lockdowns and restrictions on public gatherings have made it impossible to plan traditional information sessions,” Dr Pearce said. “However, the widespread uptake of online technology and growing expectation people have that they should be able to access the information they want wherever they are, has provided OPA with the opportunity to offer regular online information sessions.”

Over the past 18 months, OPA has delivered online information sessions on an ad hoc basis, many of which were attended by people who would not have been able to attend an in-person event even prior to lockdown.

OPA will now be offering regular 20-minute webinars on Tuesdays (repeated Thursdays) at 10am, and one-hour sessions on enduring powers of attorney and medical treatment decision-making (first Wednesday of the month) and guardianship and administration (last Wednesday of the month).
