The Advice Service offers information and advice on a diverse range of topics affecting people with a disability.

Contacting the Advice Service

The Advice Service can be contacted by phone, letter, email or by visiting the office. Please note, the office has moved to Level 1, 204 Lygon Street, Carlton. Click here for further details.

Visits to OPA are responded to when an advisor is available rather than by appointment. If there are special circumstances requiring an appointment, call the Advice Service to discuss this on 1300 309 337.

About


The Advice Service responds to more than 13,000 requests a year for information, advice and assistance relating to:
• the rights of people with a disability
• care and treatment of people with disabilities
• complaints about services for people with a disability
• VCAT applications, administration and guardianship
• enduring powers of attorney and guardianship
• medical and dental treatment for patients who cannot consent
• refusal of medical treatment.
 

Operating hours


The Advice Service operates from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The service is often very busy. If we are unable to answer your call immediately, you can leave your contact details and an adviser will call you back as soon as possible. Most calls can be returned within an hour.


Emergency after-hours enquiries
 

Emergency enquiries can be made outside normal business hours.


The after-hours service is strictly for emergency enquiries that cannot wait until the next business day. Callers with non-emergency enquires will be asked to call back between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
