Who can volunteer?
About this page
Are you:
- determined to make a difference
- willing to stand up for the rights of people with a disability
- comfortable talking to people with a disability or mental illness?
Do you:
- have good communication skills
- have a few hours spare that you'd like to use helping someone else?
Then you should register your interest to volunteer with the Office of the Public Advocate (OPA).
OPA volunteers are people of all ages, and come from wide a range of backgrounds and professions.
Some volunteers are retired professionals. Others are students. Some are parents, some are grandparents, some have no children at all. Some live with people with a disability. Some have personal experience of how important it is to protect the rights of people with a disability. Others just want to give something back to the community.
Whoever you are, if you're interested in becoming a volunteer, particularly an Independent Third Person or a Community Guardian, please contact OPA.
