This online Zoom webinar is for professionals in the health and allied services sectors.

It introduces the Medical Treatment Planning and Decisions Act and explores how supported decision-making and good communication can help ensure that all individuals are at the centre of decisions about their own health.

This session includes hearing from people with lived experience of disability.

The session will include information about:

  • What the Act says about supported decision-making
  • The role of a medical treatment decision maker

Please advise of any support or accessibility requirements.

This webinar is part of a project of the Office of the Public Advocate called 'Healthy discussions: Supporting people with disability to make and communicate health decisions'.

The Healthy Discussions project highlights that in Victoria everyone with the capacity to do so has the right to make their own decisions about their health and, to the extent possible, people should be provided with the support they need to make these decisions. The voice of people with lived experience of disability is a feature of the project, and it aims to support health professionals to improve their communication with, and understanding of, people with disability who have specific communication needs.

The project is funded by a Department of Social Services ILC Mainstream Capacity Building grant.
