NSW Trustee and Guardian scotches surety bond scheme
13 August 2017
OPA's submission to a national elder abuse inquiry was quoted in a Sydney Morning Herald article.
The NSW State Government conceded it unlawfully foisted an insurance-style scheme on thousands of people managing the financial affairs of incapacitated loved ones and has promised to issue refunds.
OPA's submission questioned the value of imposing surety bonds on private administrators, noting data shows those acting under an enduring power of attorney, or someone with informal access rather than private managers, are more likely to commit financial mismanagement and fraud.
